PHCC Participates in "Earth Hour 2026"

30 Mar 2026

Driven by its corporate social responsibility and a commitment to promoting environmental sustainability, the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) participated in the "Earth Hour 2026" global initiative. The event took place on Saturday, March 28, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, marking a significant step in the Corporation’s ongoing support for international efforts to raise environmental awareness and reduce energy consumption.

The participation followed directives from the Managing Director, Dr. Mariam Abdul Malik. Under this initiative, the Facilities and Maintenance Department implemented a plan to switch off non-essential external lighting across PHCC buildings. Importantly, the Corporation ensured that all health services remained fully operational and unaffected, prioritizing patient safety and operational efficiency.

This participation aligns with PHCC’s commitment to implementing best practices in facility management and bio-engineering, consistent with sustainability governance guidelines and international accreditation standards. Through this initiative, the Corporation emphasizes that reducing carbon emissions is no longer an option but a collective responsibility requiring coordinated institutional and community efforts.

Ms. Huda Mohsen Al-Wahedi, Executive Director of Corporate Communications, stated:

"PHCC’s participation in Earth Hour reflects our deep commitment to supporting global environmental initiatives and fostering a culture of sustainability within our organization and the wider community.  We believe that simple steps, such as conserving energy, can make a significant difference when adopted collectively and consistently."

She further added: "The Corporation seeks to embed sustainability concepts into all its operational processes—not just through symbolic gestures, but by adopting long-term strategies to improve energy efficiency and minimize environmental impact, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030."

PHCC stands as a leading entity in sustainability within the State of Qatar. All its eligible buildings have achieved the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) certification from the Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD). This achievement highlights the Corporation’s dedication to the highest standards of green building and facility management.

Moving forward, PHCC continues its efforts to enhance transparency and integrity while creating a lasting positive impact, reinforcing its vital role in serving the community and protecting the environment for future generations.
