Under the theme “Make Inhaled Treatments Accessible for ALL” .. PHCC Launches Awareness Campaign on World Asthma Day

22 May 2025

As part of its ongoing commitment to promoting community health and preventing chronic diseases, especially respiratory conditions, the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) launched a comprehensive awareness campaign on World Asthma Day. The campaign was carried out by the School Health Services and Programs Department from 7 to 12 May 2025, under the theme: “Make Inhaled Treatments Accessible for ALL.”

This campaign aligns with global efforts to improve access to effective asthma treatment and reflects the Corporation’s commitment to spreading health awareness across all segments of society. It also highlights the importance of preventing asthma and responding appropriately to its attacks, as it remains one of the most widespread chronic respiratory diseases.

The campaign focused on raising awareness about the causes of asthma, its key symptoms, and safe ways to live with the condition. It emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and timely medical intervention to reduce complications. The campaign targeted various segments of society, with special attention given to students, parents, and teachers due to their critical role in promoting healthy behaviors within the educational environment.

School Health Services played a central role in implementing the campaign by organizing awareness activities in public schools and kindergartens throughout the campaign period. These included multiple educational lectures introducing asthma and its symptoms, as well as methods of prevention. Awareness brochures were also distributed, designed in a visually appealing and simplified style to effectively convey health information suitable for all age groups.

To further reinforce its messages, the campaign included the dissemination of awareness text messages to parents via school administrations. These messages contained concise and easy-to-understand health information, aiming to expand and sustain the impact of awareness efforts. In addition, innovative interactive activities were conducted by school nursing staff in collaboration with school administrations, aiming to increase students’ awareness and instill positive health behaviors through hands-on, engaging experiences.

The campaign also emphasized the concept of “asthma-friendly schools,” which represent a model for creating a safe and supportive educational environment for students with asthma. This includes empowering school nurses to provide primary care, respond quickly to emergencies, and promote preventive education within the school community.

PHCC affirmed that this campaign is part of its national strategy to foster a culture of preventive health and disseminate evidence-based knowledge. It called on all members of the community to engage positively with the campaign’s activities and contribute to building a healthier, more informed, and safer society.
